a colour consultation

Why have a colour consultation?

Wearing the right colours on the right parts of your body can transform your look from the ordinary to the extraordinary. You will look more attractive and healthier because your skin will gain a more youthful luminosity. You will look younger. Both your face and body will appear slimmer and shapelier. The likelihood is that such a transformation will make you will feel more self assured and confident knowing that you are going to make a good impression when meeting others.

Add to this that you will save time and money by no longer buying colours that do not suit and that you will have the where withal and the skills to maintain a co-ordinated wardrobe, know what make-up to buy and the best colour for your hair and spectacles and I think the question should be: Why doesn’t every one have a colour consultation?

What is a colour consultation?

A full colour consultation lasts two and a half to three hours and follows this pattern and approximate timings:

• Greetings, tea and chat - 10 minutes

• Preliminary assessment - 20 minutes

• Comparison drapes- 15 minutes

• Selecting best drapes- 40 minutes

• Best make-up choices - 40 minutes

• Recommendations - 20 minutes

• Debriefing/farewells - 5 minutes

You will sit in a comfortable chair placed in front of a mirror lit by indirect light. The best light is the natural one so day light hours are when I do 1-1 colour analysis.

Your clothes will be covered by a white cape and your hair by a white towelling turban so that the colours you are wearing and the colour of your hair do not detract from the colours with which we are working.

You will also need to remove any make up, ear, face or neck jewellery that you are wearing. We will do this as part of the Consultation.

Will I find out my colour season?

I have trained in two methods of colour analysis and have amalgamated the two and added a dash or two of my own thus providing a unique tonal analysis. In general this means that colours are selected which share the same tonal characteristics as the client’s personal colouring.

You are analysed as an individual not as a potential season. This means that we can even take your personal preferences into account. For instance, if during our chat and preliminary assessment we find that you want to wear more of certain colours and less of others we can take this into account. The colours we choose will be unique to you and your colouring, not a swatch ready made up for Autumn, Spring, Summer or Winter. Which is a blessing if, like me, you share characteristics from two seasons not just the one!

It may be that your characteristics of undertone, clarity and depth do match a season. In which case you will find out what it is. If your characteristics are shared between seasons you will find that out too. Most importantly this is a voyage of discovery where we work together to find the colours that are best suited to you – your personality and your life style.

Your dominant characteristics will tell us whether you should blend or contrast colours and whether fabrics should be muted or shiny. You will also find your best lipstick, foundation, eyelash and eye brow colour as well as discussing hair colour , jewellery, spectacles and best fabrics.

Where does it take place?

My preference is at The Style Room. There are a lot of props to carry about but most importantly I need to know that the light is good. Being away from home is also generally more restful and relaxing for the client. Remember, this is a treat as well as a learning experience.

What do I need to bring?

Removing your make up is no problem because we will be replacing it during the session. Having your hair completely covered may mean that you will want to bring a comb and/or a hot brush to de - flatten your hair.

Some clients like to bring along a selection of coloured tops so that we can find out if they are the colours that really work for them but this is in no way obligatory.

What will I go home with?

Hopefully, a feeling of a job well done together with an understanding of the colours that suit you particularly and why they do.

Your colour wallet will be made up for you within the week with at least 20 colours for you to use in your clothes choices in the future. You will also receive a detailed summary of all that we have discussed with regard to colour and your wardrobe, make up, jewellery, fabric.

We will have discussed best fabrics, spectacle shapes, jewellery, hair, make-up and lipstick colours. You will know whether to blend or contrast your clothing and how to make a difficult colour work for you.

What if I’m still not sure about what colours I buy?

To begin with you may still have difficulty with choosing the colours that really work for you. If that is the case you know where I am I will be happy to arrange to meet with you and talk over how the garment in question works for you or not.

What does it cost?

£180.00 inclusive of consultation time, colour swatch wallet, consultation summary, use of colour wallet guidelines and follow up support. If you feel that this is too much to spend on yourself don’t forget that gift vouchers are available for others to buy you for all, or part, of a consultation. A “spread the load” option is also available.
