my personal profile

Since I can remember I have had two great passions. One was to teach. The other was a love of how things look – clothes, homes, gardens, people.

In 1973 I left London University, Goldsmiths College, with a B.Ed1 Distinction and began teaching in a girls’ comprehensive in the Elephant and Castle. A year later I left for Wales and set up a Free School for English children moving into the area who could not speak Welsh and were unwilling to go to school. Four years later I moved to the North East and began teaching English in a local High School. A year later I became Head of Individual Studies and, for the next 28 years led up to a team of fourteen staff who worked hard to “flatter not flatten” students; enabling them to build their self-confidence and become effective learners for life. The department won local and national recognition and awards for developing strong learning and training networks. I have also had responsibility for managing, and leading, effective training courses for teachers and support staff.

Concurrently, I was a joint partner in a small property developing business. My role, as Style Director, gave me responsibility for matching the style of the house and garden to potential buyers.

Over the years I have won prizes for garden design and dressmaking and designing and selling knitwear for individual orders. For a short time I worked with professional theatre in Wardrobe.

The essence of my involvement in education has been to develop individual potential and possibilities in both students and staff for whom I have been responsible. This has given me a strong background in people - orientated organisation and in developing personal skills. My move into Image Consultancy seemed a natural extension of this aim with the added bonus of being able to develop my eye for fashion and style professionally.

Up until the end of January 2007 I ran the consultancy outside my full-time teaching commitments but, such has been the success with clients I have worked with so far February 2007 saw me concentrating fully on the new business whilst continuing to get as much training and accreditation as possible.

2008 sees the Consultancy going from strength to strength and I now have my own style studio - The Style Room which is small but perfectly formed! I have been lucky enough to have been featured in The Mail on Sunday, local newspapers and periodicals such as Exclusive and Accent. I work with hotels giving talks and workshops, have an ever-growing portfolio of satisfied 1-1 clients and am working with some major companies on corporate training in style and image.

I am an Affiliate of The Federation of Image Consultants and have diplomas in Colour and Style Analysis. I am committed to enabling clients to find their unique style personally, professionally and in their home, enhancing their confidence and prospects and finding the best in themselves:

“Dear Jenny B ….. Thanks for a lovely day, all your help and tips. I feel like a new woman! My husband has noticed too!” Margrethe Harrington. Client.
